Tea Break Takes Thorpe Park

by Kim and Lea

We took the day off work on Thursday and headed to Thorpe Park. We’re in love with the adrenaline that comes with a ride on a roller coaster and were looking to get as much of that as we could! We’ve rated our favourites of the day in order below:

1. Nemesis Inferno
This was such a great ride! We waited to get onto the front of the ride to get the best view of the tracks and drops ahead of us. It was quite long compared to the other rides we went on which makes waiting in queue much more worth it. We loved the way our feet dangled off of the bottom, which really added to the thrill during the time we spent upside down, and the water spray half way through the ride was a refreshing treat especially in the 23 degree heat we were in all day (*thankyouMay*)!
The only thing is that your head bangs around a lot if you don’t hold it back. And Kim’s braids kept slapping us both in the face which was hilarious. We really wanted to go on the ride again but unfortunately didn’t get the time. Make sure you get round to going on this ride though, as this is our top recommendation!

2. Saw
The queue was longer than most for this ride but it was highly recommended by Lea and our friend Kaz, so we got in the queue and it moved twice as fast as the sign said anyway. It was a scary ride that started in the dark, which made the drops in the beginning suspenseful as we couldn’t see ahead (which was soooo fun!)
It lasted almost two minutes which is great compared to many of the others! This ride made all of us scream which was so funny to hear.

3. Stealth
This is a quick and snappy ride but in a good way! Such an amazing drop and really unexpected start (moves off so fast!)
I think it’s even the fastest roller coaster in the UK which is great! Definitely remember to keep your head back in this ride as your head will be all over the place otherwise.

4. Colossus
This ride was closed for the first 2 hours of the day but luckily for us, we were right outside the ride when it reopened so we were able to quick-walk through what felt like a 9 mile queue and got straight to the front.
We had the funniest kid behind us who went from nearly crying at the beginning because he was so scared to raving about how “amazing” the ride was at the end and how he should go again.
There was so many 360 turns in a mesh ‘tunnel’ which was so fun and really made the ride but Kaz said it wasn’t as good as he remembered.

5. Derren Brown’s Ghost Train
This is a VR experience which was really good and different. It was unexpected and although the queue was long it was worth it as it was our last ride / experience of the day.
The rest of the details are a secret though, as told by Derren Brown!

6. Angry Birds 4D
This was our first 4D experience and we loved it! We didn’t follow much of the story and although it was a kids film, it was entertaining. The chairs move around, water sprays and gusts of wind blow in your face. The water sprays got a little annoying after a while but otherwise, we would be so up for it if cinemas started doing this!

7. The Walking Dead
The ride wasn’t even the best bit of the experience but the maze in and out of the experience was so fun and different. If you watched The Walking Dead you might be more into the experience but even so, it was fun. Watch out for the strangers and live actors trying to scare you in the dark!

8. Tidal Wave
This was Lea’s least favourite as she hates water rides but good job she had her trusty homemade umbrella. There was a massive drop which ended with us all getting soaked at the bottom. Lucky for us it was a very hot day and we dried quite quickly (although this did not stop us from complaining the whole time about how uncomfortable we felt lol).

9. Swarm
This was the first ride of the day and the queue was short so we ran straight on! It was quite a disappointment and really not how we remembered it. There was not enough height on the ride which made the drops less scary and fun. Also the ride was so short that it felt like it was over in seconds. Really expected more from it as it looked great from the outside!

10. Samurai
This was the most ‘relaxing’ ride of the day, if you can call any rides that lol.
It gave us tummy flickers every time we dropped down, otherwise it wasn’t scary at all but still enjoyed it.

11. Dodgems
Dodgems are dodgems. It was really fun as always, the only thing is that there were so many cars going at once and the experience was a little too short.

12. Rumba Rapids
This was another really relaxing water ride which was good because we had just eaten lunch, however it was a little disappointing. We didn’t get wet at all apart from a few drops.

By the way, student tickets are only £20. So make sure to buy using your discount if you can!
